Half Elves

Half Elves are usually the offspring of a Human and a Bright Elf. Rarely are they the children of other Half Elves. While they can be found everywhere, there has never been any effort to make their own government or culture. This is because the vast majority of Half Elves are raised in different cultures.  Some are raised among Humans, some are raised with a single Bright Elf parent, and some are abandoned to fend for themselves. Marriage between Bright Elves and Humans is frowned upon in most Human lands, it is forbidden among Bright Elves, so the children of such unions usually face a tough childhood and an even tougher adulthood.  Many that do survive to adulthood have a jaded outlook on life and trust very few people.

There are Half Elves who endure the injustice of the other races and strive to end it. Those who do usually ally themselves to institutions dedicated to improving the lives of all people. These would be the Half Elf Defenders and Light Savants, workers and owners of shelters and orphanages in the cities, and missionaries in the rural areas.

Naming Suggestions
The majority of Half Elves cast off any name that they were given by their parents, instead choosing their own name. Some pick a descriptive name, like Human tradesmen, others pick a name that they heard once and liked, and some few even change their name depending on their mood.

Half-Elves in Coralgate
The few that live within the walls work like most humans do. There are rumors of noble families tossing out Half Elves, or worse, to cover their shame. The majority of Half Elves in Coralgate reside outside the walls. Many claim to prefer this, as it allows them the freedom to do what they wish. What they wish to do is usually a variety of illicit activities. A great many of the wanted men and women of the slums are Half Elves.

Race Relations
Humans in general view Half Elves as second-class citizens. Some ignore their existence, while some are actively malicious towards them. Few will give a Half Elf the time of day.

Lightborn look upon the Half-Elves with a distant horror. They could not imagine growing up without a loving family and supportive community. Some try to help Half Elves as a result of their dismay.

Bright Elves steadfastly refuse to acknowledge Half Elves as part Bright Elf. Even if related they will never allow Half Elves to live within their community, and will interact with them only under the direst of circumstances.

Dark Elves are disgusted by Half Elves, seeing them as abominations. Some have been known to show Half Elves mercy…by attempting to kill them.

The Mur are wary of Half Elves, but only because of their reputation as thieves and swindlers. Enjoying their trade as they do, the Mur will only give one chance to a Half Elf to do business fairly.

Shalbir don’t overly concern themselves with Half Elves as they don’t readily see much difference between them and Humans.
